Invisalign® Info

While Invisalign feels new and revolutionary, the truth is that it has been around for a couple of decades now. The system accomplishes the same thing as braces, but without the look or the complications that come with traditional metal braces. Most patients who come to see us are interested in learning more about Invisalign.

Invisalign is not the same as braces.

However, it straightens teeth just as well as braces do, and it does it in essentially the same way. The plastic aligners place pressure on the teeth in strategic ways, allowing them to slowly be moved into place. Rather than using brackets and wires to do this, they use changes in the aligner shape to create the force needed.

There are benefits with Invisalign that traditional braces cannot match.

The big selling point of Invisalign is that it is invisible. This makes it so that people can be in treatment without the world knowing. However, this is not the only plus side of Invisalign. The aligners can be removed, so brushing, flossing, eating, and drinking are easy. It is also more comfortable since there are no metal parts and treatment tends to be completed earlier.

Invisalign puts you in the driver’s seat.

You will be making your own adjustments by swapping out aligners every two weeks. It will also be up to you to keep your treatment on track by keeping your aligners in at least 22 hours a day. You see us about every six to eight weeks and then treatment will be complete between 18 and 30 months from the start of treatment.

Invisalign works for many but not all.

Mild to moderate orthodontic problems can be treated with Invisalign. Severe problems, however, cannot. If you are curious about Invisalign treatment, we can determine if it is suitable during your initial consultation. Contact us to schedule your appointment.
